My Job

I remember my first day as an eye. I wasn't quite sure what to do. The people who are in charge of the eyes, I'm not sure who they are, just send me random mail instructing me what to do. Then I just analyze what I have found and just stick the analysis sheet in my mailbox and by the end of the day it's gone.
So as my first task, I was supposed go down to the market center as a handmaid and check up on this one girl, Offred. I haven't really been around handmaids before. I heard that they were hated by the marthas, either that or the marthas are just jealous. I have no idea what they are like.
I don't know how people are picked to be spied on, if it's just random or if it's significant somehow, but anyways I step into the market called Milk and Honey. And it's packed. Every nook and cranny is filled with handmaids and market workers. I try to make my way to the front where I spot this very pregnant woman standing with this thin, little sickly looking econowife. I make my way into a line where Offred is just one person infront of me. She's gazing at the glowing pregnant woman. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. After waiting in line for a while, I get some groceries and push and shove my way out of the store. As I turn the corner I spot Offred and her partner starring at the wall and the hanging bodies. What could be going through their minds??

My Past

My real name is Pheobe Phillis. But I got renamed when our democratic government fell. My new name is Eyeseyu. I was originally a guardian. The only female guardian in my training. I guess the government had a special task for me in the future. I had no idea that they were training me to become an Eye. My reasoning for them to do this was because they needed some variety in the field of Eyes. They needed new people to spy for them on the citizens of what was once Washington D.C.

I can still remember what it was like before all of this happened. I used to be a librarian in one of the largest libraries in the nation, the Library of Congress. I remember how quiet it used to be. There were 5 floors of shelves filled to the edges with books and documents. There were a lot of old documents from the beginning of the U.S. I used to read all that I could. But even after I worked there for over 4 years, I still hadn't read all of the documents.
When I roamed the library trying to find any loud mouth I could shut up, I amused myself by trying to be as stealthy as I could.

One time I scared this guy who was looking at some old congressional documents on the third floor. I didn't mean to scare him, ok maybe I did. I was just quietly walking along when I turned the corner and he was right there, trying to talk to someone with headphones on, he was practically yelling. So I just walked up right behind him, lifted his headphones off of his ears and shooshed him. He jumped a mile! I think that day was the most fun, I had in those 4 years at the library.
